I’ve had my hair super short for around a month now, so I think I have a pretty good grasp over the pros and cons. It definitely took me a long time to build up the courage to actually make the chop, but I am so glad that I did! I can honestly say that for the first time–maybe ever–that I really, really love my hair!
My whole life, people have told me how jealous they are of my naturally pin-straight hair. “I would kill for my hair to look like that without doing anything” they would say and every time I would reply that my hair was boring and didn’t do anything. While I could leave the house with wet hair or get caught in a rainstorm without worry, I always hated how my hair would just hang there, with no body or spring to it. For years it wouldn’t take a curl…it wasn’t until my senior year of college that I found a curling iron that actually worked for me (but I was still afraid of having an experience a la this girl because I had to hold my hair on the iron for what seemed like too long). Because I didn’t like my hair’s lack of personality, I was always putting it up in buns and ponytails, which could be stylish, but also kind of defeated the purpose of trying with my hair.
Long story short, when I finally made the chop I fell in love. For the first time in my life, my hair has actual volume! And without me even trying! I feel like the volumizing shampoo I’ve been using for years is finally having some kind of effect. When I want to style my hair, it’s really simple and take about 5 minutes with the blowdryer and a round brush. And every day seems like a good hair day…second day hair is also way more adaptable than I had imagined it to be…I can braid my bangs back or I can wear a headband. I honestly never thought I could love my hair this short but that’s exactly what’s happened. It’s a complete game changer and like a rebirth for my hair.
